Chicago based artist Seth Engel has a long list of talents. On the top of that list, is his ability to write a damn good song. His solo endeavor, Options, is nothing if not a testament to this fact. As both a multi-instrumentalist and a recording engineer he’s worked with some of Chicago’s best, like Ratboys, Nnamdi Ogbonnaya, Lifted Bells, and countless others.  With a steady stream of ten releases over the past seven years, Options has shown a constant growth in Engel.

His upcoming album, Vivid Trace (Out 9/14 on Sooper Records) serves as the next installment in such growth. “And On”, the album’s first single displays for us the most matured version of Options yet. Over time Engel has polished the edges of the project, and embraced a wider range of emotions and aesthetics; all without forgetting about it’s mathy-rock roots. “And On”, puts an endearing twangy twist on pop-rock that sits heavy in post-punk influence and passion. Consistent with past works, is Engel’s subtly profound lyricism. The single captures a moment that is candid, intimate, and unapologetic - offering but a peak of what is to come from Vivid Trace.
