Self-described as everything from “sparklepunk” to "cosmic american music", american poetry club creates music meant to be listened among close friends at the end of a long day. “The sum of your parts” is the first single off of american poetry club’s newest release, we are beautiful, even when we are broken! (out on It Takes Time Records August 27th). The band puts it best themselves when they say that the title of their record is meant to be shouted “triumphantly in one's basement, surrounded by friends”. The first 30 seconds or so of the song are dominated by a soft and sweet swinging guitar line that leads us right into J.C. Weinstock’s vocals. His lyrics tell a story about finding yourself at a crossroads with another person: “There is nothing left to say, and I’m not sure what is needed”. The song eventually meets its crescendo with a horn section you won’t soon forget.
